Building Your First Delivery Pod

Building Your First Delivery Pod

By A Foundery•

The concept of a delivery pod is central to how A Foundery operates. It is a small team, usually three to five people, dedicated to delivering a specific service according to documented procedures.

Think of it like a cell in a larger organism. Each pod is self contained and capable of operating independently. But together, they form a system that can scale.

Building your first pod starts with one critical requirement: you must have already done the work yourself. You cannot delegate what you have not done. If you have never onboarded a client, you cannot write an SOP for onboarding. If you have never delivered the service, you cannot train someone else to deliver it.

Step one is documentation. Take everything you do for a client from start to finish and write it down. Every step, every decision point, every quality check. This becomes your SOP library.

Step two is hiring. Your first pod members should not be specialists. They should be generalists who can learn quickly and follow procedures. You are not hiring experts. You are hiring people who can execute a documented process reliably.

Step three is training. Walk your new team through the SOPs. Have them shadow you on live work. Then have them do the work while you watch. Correct mistakes in real time and update the SOPs based on what you learn.

Step four is quality assurance. Set up a review process where completed work is checked against the SOP standards before it reaches the client. This is non negotiable. Every pod needs quality gates.

Step five is iteration. Your first pod will not be perfect. The processes will have gaps. The team will make mistakes. That is normal. The key is to treat every mistake as a process improvement opportunity.

Once your first pod is running smoothly, building the second one is dramatically easier. The SOPs are already written. The training material already exists. You just need the people.

That is how you scale. One pod at a time.
