From Zero to 10K MRR: The Playbook

By A Foundery•

Ten thousand dollars in monthly recurring revenue. It does not sound like a lot. But getting there from zero is one of the hardest things a founder will ever do.

It represents proof. Proof that someone will pay you. Proof that you can deliver. Proof that the business model works. Everything after ten thousand dollars MRR is about doing more of what already works.

Here is the playbook our founders follow.

Start with one customer. Just one. Find a single business that has the problem you solve and convince them to pay you to solve it. This is your proof of concept. It does not matter if the deal is small. It matters that it exists.

Deliver exceptionally. Your first customer should feel like they got way more than they paid for. Not because you undercharged. Because you over delivered. This customer becomes your reference, your case study, and your referral source.

Build your process from the first delivery. Document everything you did for that first customer. What worked? What took longer than expected? What can be improved? This becomes version one of your SOP library.

Replicate. Take what you learned from customer one and go find customers two through five. Each new customer tests your process. Each delivery refines it.

Hire your first pod member. Once you have enough clients to justify it, bring on your first team member. Train them on the SOPs. Have them shadow you. Then let them deliver while you focus on selling.

Keep selling. This is where most founders stall. They get comfortable with a few clients and stop selling. Ten thousand dollars MRR requires consistent outreach. Every week. Without exception.

The math is usually straightforward. If your average client pays two thousand dollars per month, you need five clients. That is five sales conversations that result in a yes. At a twenty percent close rate, that is twenty five conversations. At a five percent response rate to cold outreach, that is five hundred emails or calls.

Work backwards from the numbers. Then execute.
