What We Look For (It Isn't a Resume)

By A Foundery•

*Credentials tell us where you've been allowed. Finished things tell us who you are.*

We read every application personally, and we can tell you the exact moment one comes alive. It is never the job titles. It is never the school. It is the sentence where a person describes something they made — shipped, sold, finished, sometimes failed — in their own words, with the specifics only a builder would know.

Three qualities predict nearly everything about how a founder will perform, and none of them appear on a resume.

**Speed.** Not frantic motion — short loops. How quickly does a thought become a test, and a test become a lesson? People reveal this in how they describe their past: builders talk in weeks and specifics, dreamers talk in someday and abstractions.

**Clarity.** Can you name your customer and their pain in one plain sentence? "Property managers drowning in maintenance calls" is clarity. "Disrupting the future of living" is a fog machine. Clarity in the application predicts clarity with customers — it is the same muscle.

**Follow-through.** The rarest one. Almost everyone starts things. We look for evidence of endings: the project that shipped, the commitment kept when it stopped being fun, the failure carried all the way to its lesson instead of abandoned at the first plot twist.

**A shipped failure tells us more than an unproven success story ever could.**

This is why our application asks for stories instead of scores, and why the application itself is the first work sample. The way a person answers hard questions — with effort or with filler — is the way they will do everything else.

No pedigree requirement. No perfect background. Bring us evidence that you finish what you start, and you will have our full attention.
